Not All Superheroes Wear Capes by Alecia R Heffner

Regular price $10.00

Not all heroes wear capes is not just a catchy phrase anymore thanks to the new release from Alecia Heffner and her @the_stem_initiative! "Not All Superheroes Wear Capes" is part of Alecia's initiative to highlight black health and science professionals!

"Not All Superheroes Wear Capes" is a childrenā€™s book designed to teach African American students the opportunities available to them in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) careers. This inspiring book combines positive images of African Americans engaging in exciting careers with a powerful message of how these individuals help others in their daily life.

This is the debut book for author Alecia Heffner and I can't wait to see what's next for her and her STEM initiative platform! According to a recent study by @pewresearch, "Blacks and Hispanics are underrepresented in science, technology, engineering and math jobs, relative to their presence in the overall U.S. workforce, particularly among workers with a bachelorā€™s degree or higher." Specifically, Blacks and Hispanics comprise 27% of the US workforce, but only 16% are in STEM related careers. Of course there's many reasons that can be debated as to the cause behind these statistics, but one thing that cannot be debated is that early exposure to the possibilities of a STEM career can certainly help increase the numbers of PoCs in STEM fields.
